President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi is on a state visit to China from Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 May to resume cooperation with China.

Foreign Minister Christophe Lutundula, who was part of the delegation accompanying the head of state, said in an interview with Radio Okapi on Tuesday, May 23 that the visit was a sign of revitalized relations between the two countries.

The state visit will also allow the two countries to identify concrete ideas for joint projects, especially investments in natural resource value chains, to balance the trade balance.

Support to FARDC will also be discussed, Christophe Lutundula said.

Despite these on-and-off ties, there has never been a diplomatic crisis between China and the DRC since President Mobutu came to power, said Christophe Lutundula.

Instead, he added, China has been supporting the DRC on the international stage, especially in the UN Security Council, for example by lifting the arms embargo on the DRC.

President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi left Kinshasa on Tuesday morning for a four-day state visit to the People's Republic of China.
