Kinshasa: Félix Tshisekedi inaugurates the construction of Boulevard Dr Étienne Tshisekedi

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, President Félix Tshisekedi officially launched the construction project of Boulevard Dr Étienne Tshisekedi in Kinshasa.

This is a strategic road infrastructure project with a total length of 2,024 meters.

Mayor Daniel Bumba of Kinshasa delivered a speech at the ceremony, introducing the main features of the project. The project aims to improve traffic flow and alleviate traffic congestion in this area of the capital.

Project planning and technical indicators

Route connection: The future boulevard will connect Avenue de la Libération (also known as "the 11th November 24th Avenue") with Bakayawu Square in Bandalungwa District.

Lane configuration: It is planned to be a two-way eight-lane road (four lanes in each direction).

Support facilities: A box culvert bridge will be built over the Basoko River; a 1,140-meter drainage channel will be constructed; a connecting road to the Ministry of Defense will be laid; and complete road traffic signs, paved sidewalks, bus stops, modern lighting systems, and other facilities will be provided.

The provincial government's statement and project duration

Mayor Daniel Bumba praised the determination of the head of state to modernize the road infrastructure in Kinshasa. He emphasized that this momentum is reflected in the implementation of multiple projects, aiming to provide the capital with a more modern, safer, and more responsive road network.

Furthermore, this urban manager reaffirmed the determination of the provincial government and its infrastructure department to fully ensure the smooth implementation of the project until completion.

Project duration and contractor: The project is expected to take 12 months and will be constructed by China Railway Construction Corporation 20th Bureau (CR20). After completion, Boulevard Dr Étienne Tshisekedi will effectively improve the traffic conditions in this area of Kinshasa and reduce congestion.
