G20 Summit: Congo's President Tshisekedi meets with U.S. President Joe Biden: Vaccines, natural resources, environmental protection
U.S. President Joe Biden and African Union Chairman Joseph Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, met on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit, the White House said.

The two leaders discussed the joint commitments of the United States and the African Union to promote global health security and end the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also discussed the recent US-brokered agreement between Moderna and the AU to accelerate the delivery of up to 110 million doses of vaccine to the AU.
In addition, the United States has shipped 63 million doses of vaccine to the African Union, and the United States is donating more vaccine every week.
The two leaders also discussed the need to protect the Congo Basin rainforest, the world's second largest, to meet the global goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
President Biden welcomed President Tshisekedi's efforts to promote transparency, fight corruption, and respect human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's management of its vast natural resources.
The two leaders also discussed President Tshisekedi's efforts as the rotating chair of the African Union to promote peace and security in Africa, including resolving the growing crisis in Ethiopia and the need to restore a democratically elected transitional government in Sudan.
